Our Team
Sue Hillan Occupational Therapist and Director
Sue qualified as an Occupational Therapist in 1990 and has worked within neurorehabilitation gaining extensive experience for her entire career.
Almost twenty years were spent in the NHS working in brain injury and stroke rehabilitation units, with a move into the independent sector in 2007 working as an OT within a case management company.
In 2014 Sue set up Neuro Independence and since then has enjoyed the opportunity to continue to develop her learning and skills from her clients as well as leading a small team and developing the business.
Sue's main area of expertise and interest is in cognitive rehabilitation, recognising that this aspect of brain injury presents some of the biggest challenges for individuals and their families as they learn about their 'new' self and adjust to life after a brain injury. She enjoys close and effective team working to ensure meaningful therapy programmes are created and adopted to move each client forward.
Ruth Parry Mateo Occupational Therapist
Ruth has worked with Neuro Independence for five years as an Occupational Therapist specialising in working with adolescents and adults with Acquired Brain Injury. Her key skills involve working with clients with cognitive, emotional and behavioural impairments which impact their functional performance in all aspects of everyday life. She values the importance of listening, motivating and inspiring others to be able to take steps to improve their skills, confidence and overall independence.
Ruth has thirteen years experience of working with adult and adolescents in both the independent and NHS sectors as both an Occupational Therapist and Case Manager.
Ruth acknowledges that a client centred and creative approach is often successful to provide autonomy and a sense of control within a young person’s life, enabling them to achieve their chosen goals.
Amy Stubbs Occupational Therapy Assistant
Amy has worked as an Occupational Therapy Assistant at Neuro Independence since November 2019. In her role she implements one to one rehabilitation programmes under the supervision of the team’s Occupational Therapists and working within wider rehabilitation teams.
Amy is a conscientious and motivated mature individual with excellent communication skills and effective time management and organisational skills. She uses valuable experience gained working in a variety of clinical care and therapy environments, a BA Honours Degree in Early Childhood Studies and completion of the first year of an Occupational Therapy Degree to underpin her role.
She strongly believes in a client centred care to enable all individuals to fulfil their potential and is creative and flexible in her approach.
